Art
Our lives are our greatest works of art.
When I was little, my dream job was to be a choreographer, and I feel like I have become that dream slightly when I teach yoga.
I often blend my art practice with my yoga practice and like to use both as opportunities to invite greater openness and discovery. We may have visions for artworks or collections, and then what we create is beyond knowing, beyond expectation. Art provides the greatest opportunity for process, for surrender, for magic, and for love.
I think I have always known that making art was going to be a primary purpose and practice for me. I think we can engage in many various forms of art-making - painting, singing, dancing, writing. There are no rules when it comes to making art and how we choose to show up. We get to decide.
Currently, I am creating a new collection called “star series” that honors the immense change, healing, and hope that reside within my spirit. It is inspired by the STAR tarot card.
My first collection I called “sun series.” I was fortunate to have an art show at Yoga Tree, where I taught yoga in Chicago. Stay tuned for my next collection: “star series.”

And, in therapy, we can integrate creative expression of many forms. The ethereal, transcendent “flow state” is well-known as being a key ingredient for one’s overall health, well-being, and joy.

Art-Making
I think self-expression is core to our being. Not only do I think expressing yourself through art, whether it’s poetry or an essay or a painting, is necessary, I think it brings joy and healing to our souls. I remember at a very young age my first creative love was dance and then became writing and then comedy and then art-making. And, I am open to what continues to unfold on the path. Currently, I am pretty in love with singing and making raw sounds. I think I am practicing owning my voice, as we always are.
My journey with painting has been one of self-discovery. I did not attend art school but I created time and space for listening, learning, and allowing.
I make art because I believe it is so much fun. I also believe it is a tool for accessing our interior worlds, for releasing emotions, and for cultivating a deep connection to the soul and the heart. Art and creativity are the pulse of everything.
I am someone who does not go anywhere without a journal or a pen pouch full of colorful writing utensils. I need to be able to scribble a doodle or a thought or a memory in an instant.
Several years ago, I traveled to France and frolicked to Paris, Nice, and the country-side with a friend. I remember carving out some solo travel time too and a lot of my time was spent drinking espresso or cafe au laits and doodling people and the scenes in front of me.
Today, I find peace and comfort in watercoloring and I am hoping to create more art pieces that transcend the vision I think I am hoping to create. Art-making is all about allowing “mistakes,” surrender, and surprise. The unexpected delights!
I love bringing in art-making with clients because we drop into our bodies and feel and sense and remember who we are. We stop over-thinking and we start existing and tuning back to the present moment.
The present moment is always the moment of power.
“There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all of time, this expression is unique.”
